It was struck by lightning early morning Monday 9th July 1984. The alarm began 2-30am. It was a work day for me, i rode down in my lunch hour. There were wisps of smoke stll. Sad sight. --Beautifully restored. ------PS In York , the word Bar means Gate.and the word Gate means street. ( A bar is still a place also to enjoy a drink), but not in the city wall Bars OK. -------------Inside city walls ,streets ending gate, there are 28.
